 Mediation
A mediated divorce is one in which the divorcing
couple attend mediation sessions with a trained
mediator who facilitates their decision-making.
Most of the required paperwork is drawn up by
the mediator and reviewed by the parties. An outside
attorney is then hired by one party (the Petitioner)
to write the Petition for Dissolution of Marriage
and to file the necessary documents at the courthouse.
The attorney will also represent the Petitioner
at the hearing. Costs for the attorney’s
services vary, but can be as low as a $600.00
flat fee for a divorce that has been mediated.

the parties, the accuracy of financial information

IN A MEDIATED DIVORCE, complicated child custody
issues or property issues may add one or two more
mediation sessions to the process.
